Sterlite Tech net up 28%

The firm had a net profit of Rs 34.30 crore in the March quarter of FY'08, Sterlite Technologies said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The company's net sales rose 6.23 per cent to Rs 577.50 crore during the March quarter, from Rs 543.62 crore in the corresponding period a year-ago.

During the quarter Sterlite Technologies incurred foreign exchange gains of Rs 4.17 crore, against forex losses of Rs 1.77 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

The board has approved a dividend of 25 per cent for FY'09 on shares of face value of Rs five.For the financial year ended March 31, Sterlite Tech reported a net profit of Rs 90.15 crore, down 10.49 per cent over the year-ago period.

The firm had a net profit of Rs 100.72 crore in FY'08.The net sales rose to Rs 2,289.23 crore in FY'09, from Rs 1,685.79 crore in FY'08.Shares of Sterlite Tech closed at Rs 92.20, up 7.33 per cent on the BSE.
