Pharmaceuticals firm Sun Pharma has posted a 49.7 per cent rise in net profit for its second quarter ended September to Rs 48.2 crore from Rs 32.2 crore, while turnover increased 29.3 per cent to Rs 196.15 crore from Rs 151.8 crore during the period.

| Domestic sales saw an increase of 17.4 per cent while exports rose a whopping 129.7 per cent.

Domestic sales were at Rs 159.5 crore against Rs 135.9 crore, while exports stood at Rs 36.5 crore against Rs 15.8 crore for the second quarter.

For the half year ended September 30, profits showed an increase of 40.6 per cent from Rs 63.2 crore to Rs 88.9 crore, while the turnover for the same period registered an increase of 27.7 per cent from Rs 204.5 crore to Rs 363.4 crore.

Sales of domestic formulations for the quarter, was up 27.6 per cent while exports of formulations was up by 140.6 per cent to Rs 8.83 crore as against Rs 3.67 crore for the same corresponding period last year.

According to ORG Marg, the company is ranked fifth by domestic prescription product sales and has a market share of 2.72 per cent as against 2.42 per cent from last year. The R&D expenditure for the quarter stood at Rs 8.1 crore while for the half year was Rs 13.2 crore.
