Suzuki recalls about 10,000 'Alto' in Europe
Press Trust of India / New Delhi May 14, 2010, 16:42 IST

Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motor Corp is recalling the automatic transmission version of its compact car 'Alto' in Europe, which is sold under the brand A-Star in India.

The recall will, however, not have any impact on the Indian market as its subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), which produces the car only at its Manesar plant, does not sell the automatic transmission version here.

According to reports from Europe, Suzuki is recalling about 10,000 units of the automatic transmission version of the compact car to rectify faulty transmission system.

As per estimates, the automatic transmission version accounts for about 10 per cent of total of over one lakh units of 'Alto' (A-Star) that Suzuki sold in Europe last year.

Earlier in February, MSI had announced a global recall of one lakh A-Stars to rectify faulty fuel pump gasket.

The 'A-Star' is MSI's flagship export model and started selling the car in Europe since January 2009.

Past recalls by MSI include the hatchback Swift in 2005 to change bolts to reduce the front suspension noise in Swift petrol and Swift diesel in 2007 to set right electronic control units. It had also replaced speedometers in M800 and Omni in 2008.
