Taj Safari on expansion mode, Assam may benefit
Supratim Dey / Kolkata/ Guwahati Mar 10, 2010, 00:46 IST

With Taj Safari project being a “successful” venture of the Taj Group since its inception, the company plans to have at least six more such wildlife projects in the next 18 months, and Assam might be the lucky one to bag one of the projects.

“We want to open more Taj Safaris as it has been very successful,” said RK Krishna Kumar, director of Tata Sons, on the sidelines of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the first Taj Hotel – Taj Vivanta, in Guwahati.

The company presently has four Taj Safari projects, located in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Taj Safari is a joint venture project of Taj Hotels and Resorts with Conservation Corporation Africa (CC Africa), one of the most comprehensive safari operators of Africa and a leading eco-tourism company. Taj Safari comprises stay at luxurious jungle resorts of Taj Group and safari of wildlife circuits and national parks in the county.

Given Assam’s richness in wildlife and eco-tourism, the Taj Group is exploring the possibility of setting up a Taj Safari project in Assam too. The state is a “great candidate” for a Taj Safari project, said Krishna Kumar.

“Hopefully with this beginning (the first five-star hotel in Guwahati), we would look for more opportunities in Assam. The state is richly endowed with nature in the form of wildlife and natural beauty. And Taj would be pursuing actively its Taj Safari project in Assam. Assam is a great place for a Taj Safari resort and circuit,” he said.
