| Tata Coffee MD to step down in Jan |

Tata Coffee Limited has announced that M H Ashraff, managing director of the company, will cease to hold office at the end of his present tenure which expires on January 2, 2010. The board has decided to appoint Hameed Huq, the executive director (plantations), as managing director of the company for three years from January 3, 2010. Ashraff was appointed MD in 2000.
The company grew its sales almost six times during his nine-year stint.
He started his career as an assistant manager on the tea estates owned by James Finlay and Company in 1968, which was acquired by Tata Tea Ltd in 1983. Ashraff has held various senior posts in the company. He joined the board, in June 1994 and was part of the team which was responsible for the acquisition of Tata Tetley Ltd, the biggest such acquisition by an Indian company abroad in history, at that time.
He has held various posts in plantation organisations. He was president of the Plantation Association of Tamil Nadu; president of the UPASI and member, Tea Board and member, Coffee Board.
