Tata Motors effected a price cut across its range of passenger cars, utility vehicles and commercial vehicles. Tata Indica and Indigo models, depending on the variants, will now be cheaper by Rs 12,000-23,000. Prices of Tata Safari and Sumo will be lowered by Rs 16,000-36,000. Tata Motors' range of light commercial vehicles like Ace, Winger and Magic will be cheaper by Rs 17,000-23,000, while its medium and heavy commercial vehicles will now enjoy a price discount ranging between Rs 30,000 and Rs 60,000.

Ford India announced a 3 per cent reduction in prices across its models, including Fusion, Fiesta and Endeavour.

''We are supportive of the government's action on reduction of Cenvat and see this as a welcome move. This will bring some relief to the Indian automotive industry in general. With that in mind, we will be passing on the benefit of the duty cut to our customers,” said Michael Boneham, president, Ford India.

The price reduction ranges from Rs 17,500 to Rs 54,000, across various variants and model ranges, with SUV Endeavour's price dropping by Rs 54,000 on its top-end variant to Rs 17,19,000.

Automobile manufacturer General Motors also cut the price of its vehicles by up to Rs 30,500. With immediate effect, the company has reduced the prices of its small car Spark by Rs 8,000-10,200, GM India Vice-President P Balendran said.

Prices of hatchback Aveo U-VA were cut between Rs 12,000 and Rs 16,000, while those of entry-level sedan Aveo were slashed by Rs 16,700-21,000.

Car maker Skoda India too brought down prices of its products by up to Rs 51,500.

"To pass on the benefit of the Cenvat reduction by the government, the company will slash prices between Rs 12,500 and Rs 51,500 across all models," said Thomas Kuehl, board member (sales and marketing), Skoda.
