Tata Motors Sept sales soar 5.77%

Automaker Tata Motors today posted 5.77 per cent jump in its total sales during September at 52,513 units against 49,647 units the same month in 2008.

The homegrown firm's total passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market grew by 9.59 per cent at 18,176 units last month, against 16,586 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement.

However, its exports in September plummeted by 35.12 per cent at 2,863 units, compared with 4,413 units in the same month last year, it added.

The 'Indica' range reported sales of 9,858 units, up 15 per cent over September, 2008, it said.

The 'Indigo' family, however, recorded sales of 3,420 units, a fall of 27 per cent over the same month last year. 'Sumo' and 'Safari' accounted for sales of 2,374 units, a decline of 28.5 per cent compared with September last year.

In the commercial vehicles segment, sales in September in the domestic market stood at 31,474 units, compared with 28,648 units sold in the same month last year, up 9.86 per cent.

Light commercial vehicles sales during the month were at 18,454 units, up 16 per cent, while medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 13,020 units, a jump of 2 per cent compared with September, 2008.

The cumulative sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market in the first six months of this fiscal were up marginally at 98,568 units, against 97,929 units in the year-ago period, Tata Motors said.

Commercial vehicles' cumulative sales in the domestic market for the fiscal were 1,61,700 units, a jump of 11 per cent over the corresponding period in the last financial year.
