Tata Power to invest Rs 70K cr in capacity expansion
Press Trust of India / Mumbai Sep 08, 2010, 20:16 IST

Ratan Tata-led Tata Power plans to invest Rs 70,000-crore to increase capacity to 25,000 megawatts (Mw) by 2017, a top company official said.

"The company plans to spend Rs 70,000-crore to increase capacity to 25,000 Mw by 2017," Tata Power's Chairman Ratan Tata told shareholders at the company's annual general meeting here today.

Tata Power currently has 3,000 Mw of installed generation capacity.

The company's 4,000 Mw, Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project's implementation is progressing as per schedule with 53 per cent of overall project progress achieved. The first unit is expected to be commissioned by September 2011, Tata said.

The 1,050 Mw Maithon Power Project in Jharkhand is also progressing well and has achieved 82 per cent completion. The first unit is expected to be commissioned by end-2010, Tata said, adding that the project cost will increase by Rs 350-400-crore due to railway connectivity for coal supply.

The company has also made substantial progress in setting-up the 1,600 Mw Coastal Maharashtra Project. The project is expected to be commissioned within three-years of completion of the land acquisition, which is in progress, Tata said.

The company is in the process of obtaining environment clearance for the 1,320 Mw Naraj Marthapur project in Orissa. The plant is expected to be commissioned within three-years of completion of the land acquisition, Tata said.
