Tata Steel kicks off hunt for creative women

As a part of its endeavour to identify and train women with creative and leadership qualities under its Tejaswini programme, Tata Steel has kicked off a five month long competition from November 16.

The women would be chosen from the Self-help Groups (SHGs) functioning in the 50-odd peripheral villages of Kalinganagar in Orissa's Jajpur district where Tata Steel is setting up a six million tonne per annum greenfield steel plant.

Around 1,000 tribal and non-tribal women from 65 SHGs are participating in this competition. The competition will be continued till April 2010 in various form like song, debate, fun games, sweater making, musical chair, jhoti, dance and drawing.

Meanwhile, Tata Steel has achieved the maiden one million injury free man hours on October 8 this year at its fabrication yard for the Kalinga Nagar Steel complex (KNSC).

The construction of the project will require 2,50,000 tonnes of building structural work. Tata Steel initiated has initiated a fabrication and structural yard to pre-fabricate large delivery cycle oriented steel structural with intricate shapes, complex massive sizes and weight structural in collaboration with L&T near KNSC.
