The tea consumption pattern is changing rapidly as more and more consumers the world over, especially in the west, are switching over to green tea, says PT Siganporia, deputy managing director of Tata Tea Ltd.
With people becoming more health conscious, the consumption and production of organic tea is on the increase and companies like Tata Tea are focussing on the diversified needs of this market, he said. Confident that the tea industry will make a comeback as demand in the UK, the US, Canada, France and Germany is increasing, Siganporia expects a growth in the consumption of tea in the developed nations as well as in India.
Tata Tea is also exploring opportunities in the emerging markets, he said. The firm will give thrust to customised focus on the market and higher unit value realisation.
Tata Tea has already introduced a new brand called Malakipara Tea in the bulk segment of the Kochi Auction Centre. Siganporia said Tata Tea will launch new brands every two months as part of its marketing strategy. He also said it will be a boon to the tea plantation industry in India if the government withdraws the Rs 2 excise duty per kg of tea.
