TERI launches specialised library on climate change
Press Trust of India / New Delhi June 12, 2009, 13:26 IST

In a first of its kind initiative in the country, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) today launched a specialised library on climate change to spread awareness and information on the issue.

Ambassador of Norway Ann Ollestad inaugurated the library in presence of climate expert and TERI Director General R K Pachauri, who said "the initiative is important to create resources from where people can gain knowledge about climate change".

The Norwegian ambassador said, "The concept of setting up such a library is very impressive. It will help young people. It will in due course, I am sure, develop as a repository of valuable information resources and services in the subject area that would be readily available to policy makers, researchers, students and business organisations dealing with climate change."

"Since there was no specialised library anywhere in the country dealing with climate change, so we thought of having one. And given the threat that the global warming pose to the humanity, it is important that people are aware of the issue and take steps to curb emission of greenhouse gases responsible for climate change."

The specialised library will work as an information platform to collect and disseminate information related to climate change and energy security. It will be linked with 15 Norwegian organisations and 42 national and international bodies.
