Five-star hotels in the country’s commercial capital are all out to woo customers on Valentine’s Day. So, at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower in Mumbai’s tony Colaba, its celebrity Chef Hemant Oberoi is going to dish out a 14-course personalised meal. Price: Only Rs 3.5 lakh.
The package, has already been sold out. Encouraged, the hotel is planning a similar offering at three of its restaurants — Wasabi, Chef Studio and Zodiac Grill. “The evening will be set in ultra luxury for the guests. Exotic food and wine is on the menu,” Taj has said.
At the JW Marriott in Mumbai, a Valentine’s package for two will come at Rs 1.5 lakh. The hotel will organise a romantic drive for the couple in a sleek limousine. The chef will offer a special seven-course meal suited to the couple’s palate and desire.
“Because Valentine’s Day falls on a weekday, hotels are looking at satisfying their customers through food and beverage offerings. Many are customising these by giving exclusive and exotic touch,” said the general manager of a five-star hotel in Mumbai.
Taj’s Rajasthan Palaces is offering a two-night package priced between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh (plus taxes), while its Hyderabad property, Taj Falaknuma Palace, has a similar offering priced between Rs 65,000 and Rs 90,000, plus taxes.
The Leela Goa is offering a three-night package priced between Rs 72,000 and 1.2 lakh for couples. It is also offering an exclusive private five-course dinner for two by the beachside at Rs 25,000.
Even those with not-so-padded wallets need not worry. These hotels have also kept in mind the needs of the ones who do not have very deep pockets. “We have also designed packages for many of our guests keeping in mind the current economic scenario. Why should Valentine’s Day celebrations be any less for them,” said the F&B head of a five-star hotel in Mumbai.
At ITC Maratha in Mumbai, chefs will dish out seven-course meals, including ‘home-made pappardelle with wine roast duck’, ‘Pumpkin and parmesan ravioli with truffle sage butter’ and much more at The Peshwa Pavilion and West View - The Grill Room. The packages have been priced upwards of Rs 35,000.
JW Marriott, is offering a journey to a private island destination within the privacy of its Thai Pagoda at the pool side. The chef will serve a customised five-course international menu for two along with a bottle of Pink Champagne and other beverages at the cost of Rs 50,000.
The old adage “it’s the thought that counts” certainly won’t apply to many.
It reminds me a Sher by Shaqil Badayauni which he said about Taj Mahal-

I am in a western country, where there is noise for too difference in income of have & have nots.
Will not this dispay of such vulgar expense will motivate others to make money somehow-legal, illegal?.
However, we husband & wife, are happy with each other for last 40 years without spending so much money any day.
