TiE focuses on Punjab, Chandigarh
Vikas Sharma / New Delhi/ Chandigarh Jun 12, 2009, 00:49 IST

The Punjab and Chandigarh chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) is taking a host of steps to promote entrepreneurship in the region.

According to TiE Chandigarh and Punjab chapter president Puneet Vatsayan, the downturn always gives rise to great ideas that result in great businesses. “Looking at the current downturn as an opportunity to excel, TiE has taken many steps to promote entrepreneurship in the region.”

TiE has entered into agreements with technical institutes and universities that include Punjab Engineering College, University Business School, Thapar University and Chitkara University to help and support their entrepreneurship development clubs (EDC). TiE is supporting the EDC of these institutes and universities by disseminating ideas and organising student-expert interactions.

Besides, it has announced plans to organise 'Business Plan Competition' in association with the city IT department. The ‘Business Plan’ competition aims at identifying and encouraging the creation of export-focused IT and technology-focused enterprises.

Among others, TiE recently organised a 'Deal Flow Meeting' where the possibility of raising venture capital for business plans was discussed. “Of late, venture capital firms are evincing interest in the region and our attempt is to facilitate an interaction between them and the entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Vatsayan. More such meetings would be organised on a regular basis.
