| TN keen on promoting infra projects with Japan |

The Tamil Nadu government is keen on addressing infrastructure issues in the state and developing infrastructure projects in collaboration with Japanese government, said chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
Inaugurating the super critical steam turbine and generator manufacturing facility of Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator Pvt Ltd at Manali, near here, she said the joint steering committee consisting of the state government and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, had identified a number of infrastructure projects for cooperation.
These include promotion of new industry parks and Japanese industrial townships, logistics parks, Chennai-Bangalore Corridor of Excellence, waste water treatment and desalination.
“My government is very keen to upscale bilateral cooperation between Tamil Nadu and Japan by implementing some of these infrastructure initiatives,” the chief minister said.
She also said the government was expediting process to solve infrastructure connectivity bottlenecks from their plants to Ennore port.
The Japanese delegates, including Toshiba Corporations president and CEO Norio Sasaki, requested the government to clear connectivity bottlenecks and strengthen infrastructure including road and ports to improve industrial environment.
Some large Japanese companies are considering substantial investments in TN and the government would soon sign MoUs with these companies. Chennai has the largest number of Japanese companies. Of the 1,422 Japanese companies having operations in India, 286 are in TN, she said.
