TN to get 5 new projects worth Rs 6,500 cr

Five new projects worth over Rs 6,500 crore are expected to commence during the current fiscal in Tamil Nadu, according to Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin.

On Monday he told the state assembly that over the last three years investments worth Rs 6,148 crore had come into the state through nine companies. Their total committed investment is around Rs 7,150 crore, he noted.

Over the last three years 86,562 people have been provided jobs through 31 factories, which have generated indirect job opportunities for 1,22,130 people, informed the assembly.

Stalin further said the state government had signed memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with 22 companies including Motorola, Dell, Samsung, Caparo, Sanmina, Hyundai, Nokia Siemens, Hansen Drives and Growthlink. These companies have invested Rs 6,148 crore so far, while their total investment commitment was Rs 7,150 crore.

Stalin added, Apollo Tyres, Tessolve, ATC tyres, Daimler and Caterpillar are expected to commence their operations this year. Renault Nissan is to commence the project by 2010.

Signet Solar is also expected to start construction work shortly, Moser Baer is building a project. Ashok Leyland-Nissan LCV project is stuck over land acquisition issue and MRF is in the process of acquiring lands. Tata’s titanium project and MPPL Renewable energy projects have not taken off as they are presently involved in purchasing the land directly from the people, he added.
