Top-10 cos lose Rs 67,000 cr from m-cap

The past week, during which benchmark index Sensex dipped below the psychological 16,000-level, saw all the top 10 valued firms losing over Rs 67,000 crore from their market capitalisation (m-cap).

During the week ended February 6, state-run NMDC fell the most. The country's largest iron ore producer, at the third place in order of its valuation, lost Rs 17,761.86 crore to have a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 1,79,442.32 crore.

In the past week, the Sensex plunged 442 points to 15,915.65 at the end of Saturday's trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL), maintained its numero-uno position even after losing Rs 17,282.43 crore from its valuation, which took its total m-cap to Rs 3,24,948.84 crore.

Two state-run firms-- ONGC and NTPC-- together lost a sum of Rs 8,719.42 crore from their valuation.

At the end of the week, the total m-cap of ONGC, which is at the second spot, declined to Rs 2,34,099 crore and NTPC, at the fourth place, saw its valuation plunge to Rs 1,69,073 crore.

During the past week, NTPC came out with its follow-on-public offer, which was subscribed 1.2 times. The issue, through which the government is divesting five per cent of its stake at a floor price of Rs 201 a share, is valued at Rs 8,286 crore.

Meanwhile, state-run trading firm MMTC at the fifth place saw its valuation decline by Rs 856.5 crore to reach Rs 1,68,600 crore.

Two top IT firms, TCS at the sixth place witnessed its valuation decline by Rs 1,164.53 crore to Rs 1,42,777.74 crore, while Infosys Technologies at the seventh spot saw its m-cap plunge by Rs 5,537.53 crore to Rs 1,36,511.12 crore at the end of Saturday's trade.

The country's largest public sector bank SBI at the eighth spot witnessed a dip of Rs 9,151.79 crore from its m-cap taking its total valuation to Rs 1,21,506.51 crore.

Besides, telecom major Bharti Airtel shuffled its position with state-run power equipment maker BHEL.

Bharti Airtel inched up to the ninth spot even after losing Rs 2,392.08 crore from its valuation, and state-run power equipment maker BHEL slid to the 10th after losing Rs 4,554.98 crore from its m-cap.

Bharti Airtel's m-cap stood at Rs 1,13,984.74 crore and BHEL's at Rs 1,13,245.56 crore.

The markets traded for six days last week, including a special 90-minute session on Saturday.
