Trinamool won't bargain for portfolios: Trivedi
Press Trust of India / Kolkata May 17, 2009, 13:06 IST

The Trinamool Congress, which displayed spectacular performance in West Bengal bagging 19 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, today said it would not bargain for portfolios but wanted a stable government at the Centre.

"We are not really in the game of any kind of bargain. There is no question of any kind of condition also. We want a stable government," TC spokesman Dinesh Trivedi said.

Trivedi said Congress President Sonia Gandhi and TC chief Mamata Banerjee would soon discuss issues relating to government formation.

"They are going to discuss. We have a significant number. Infact, we have the largest number of seats among the allies. So, I am very much sure that the Congress would be very keen to have Mamata on board," he said.

Trivedi, a Rajya Sabha member, said Banerjee never aspired for any ministry as she always loves to be with the people.  "It is not a game of having power or this ministry or that ministry," he said.

Trivedi said the TC and Congress are natural allies as both have the same objective of defeating the Left Front in West Bengal and the election results were totally against the Left Front.

"The ground reality in West Bengal is people wanted a change and people wanted relief from the state-sponsored terrorism. The verdict is clear — loud and clear. People have spoken.

"It is a no confidence to the Left Front government in Bengal. We would likely to see early (Assembly) elections in West Bengal.

Ultimately it is fact that people of West Bengal want betterment as they have seen worst time in 33 years rule of Left Front," Trivedi said.
