TTML to expand 'Photon' wireless broadband service in state

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd (TTML) is planning to launch its wireless broadband service ‘Photon’ in all major cities in Maharashtra, including Pune and Kolhapur.

After Mumbai and Nagpur, TTML has launched Photon wireless broadband service in Nashik. The company is also planning to launch this service in all major cities across Maharashtra, including Pune and Kolhapur, shortly.

Moreover, TTML is also planning to invest close to Rs. 1,000 crore to grow and strengthen its network base in the current FY 2009-10 and some part of this investment will be used to expand Photon wireless broadband service in major cities across Maharashtra.

Photon, the new wireless solution that enables mobile broadband service, will be accessible via both USB Modems and Routers, catering to consumer and business segments. This service allows customers to be always-on and provides faster access to e-mail, large file transfers, large presentations and superior experience of audio and video streaming.

“After Mumbai, Nagpur and Nashik, we are planning to launch Photon wireless broadband service in all major cities across Maharashtra. We are launching this service in Pune and Kolhapur, shortly”, Rajesh Puri, President-Operations, TTML told Business Standard.

“Our aim is to emerge among few top telecom companies. Last year, we had invested around Rs. 1,000 crore to develop the network and customer service in Mumbai and Maharashtra. We are planning to invest close to Rs. 1,000 crore in the current year too (FY 2009-10) to grow and strengthen our network base,” Puri said.

Presently, the company has 8 million CDMA subscribers, out of which 2.5 million are in Mumbai.

In the fixed line segment, it has half a million users, with a market share of 49.5%.
