UB eyes 20% rise in beer sales in FY11
Press Trust of India / Kolkata Feb 15, 2010, 21:35 IST

Vijay Mallya-led United Breweries (UB) aims to increase its beer sales by 20 per cent next fiscal, a senior company official today said.

UB Marketing Senior Vice-President Samar S Sheikhawat said at the launch of a new beer brand here today the company plans to sell 100 million cases in the current fiscal, representing 20 per cent growth from the last one when it had sold 83 million cases.

"We expect to register a similar growth in 2010-11 also," he said.

The total market size of beer in India is around 190 million cases.

UB plans to launch three-four beer brands of mild and strong varieties during 2010-11.

"We plan to relaunch Heineken under our fold in the third quarter of the next financial year and also Cannon and Tiger during the year," Sheikawat said.

Heineken NV had bought 37.5 per cent stake in UB a year ago through acquisition of UK-based Scottish & Newcastle Plc.

On the possibility of raising prices, he said, "We are evaluating options across brands, but a call would be taken after the Union Budget when a clearer picture emerges."
