Uninor logs in 1.2 mn subscribers in first month of operation
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jan 12, 2010, 18:43 IST

A Norwegian-Indian telecom joint venture firm, Uninor, today said it has secured 1.2 million subscribers across eight telecom circles during the first month of its operation.

Since the launch in December last year and by the end of the respective month, Uninor has secured 1.2 million subscribers across eight telecom circles where it offers GSM services, Uninor said in a statement.

Uninor, a joint venture between Norway's Telenor and India's Unitech, had launched operations in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, East and West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

"We are building on our launch -- scaling up our network and our distribution. In a competitive market, it will never be easy, but we have a long term ambition and we have made a positive start," Uninor Managing Director Stein-Erik Vellan said.

Considering that subscribers, currently come from only eight circles these numbers are encouraging, Vellan added.

"We are still in a very early phase, but this is an indication that our price plans are perceived as attractive for Indian consumers," he said.

As per guidelines, the company has submitted its monthly numbers to the Telecom Regulation Authority of India (TRAI), and the Cellular Operator Association of India (COAI).

The customer complaints are not attended. On 8.1.2010, we have dialled Uninor toll free number 1909 in the early morning (first call) and we ended up with a bill of Rs.38.40 deducted from our account. The complaint was immediately given to Customer care under docket No.1-942856454. Also sent email to care@uninor.in. We tried today escalate the problem to Appellate-authority, but the mail got rejected. Uninor was asked to send us an email reply and no response till now. Every time we contact 121 their enquiry starts with enquiry of our mobile number, name, place from which we enquire and no reply to our Service request and its reply by email. This is for public feed back on my experience in redressal of genuine grievances by Uninor.
