Unisys, the over $5 billion information technology outsourcing and systems integration global player, has set up a team in India to develop solutions for the country’s Unique Identity (UID) project.
It has appointed Prakash Kirpalani as Director (Strategy and Business Development) to head the team.
The strategy is to, among other things, provide advisory counsel to the UID Authority of India (UADAI) and National Informatics Centre (NIC); forging partnerships with companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro and HCL; and promoting local Indian technology and service providers.
Unisys has over 2,000 employees in India, and two centres in Bangalore and one in Hyderabad. Around 12 per cent of its revenues come from the Asia-Pacific region.
“We have been present in India for nearly 30 years. But now we believe it’s time to sharpen our focus on this region. We are meeting with our partners and government officials to bring our domain expertise in secure computing to the UID project,” says Kirpalani.
He adds that Unisys in Indi will be drawing on the expertise of people like the company’s National Security Program Director (Asia-Pacific), John S Kendall.
