| The UP government has cleared the proposal for setting up three distilleries by Bajaj Hindusthan, Dhampur Sugar Mills and Dayal Breweries.

| The existing distillery of the DSM group at Dhampur in Bijnor district, with a licensed capacity to produce 462 lakh litres of industrial alcohol annually, has been allowed to produce 369.6 lakh litres of potable alcohol within the licensed capacity.

| The new distillery of the DSM group, proposed at Rajpura in Badyun district with licensed capacity of 600 lakh litres, has been allowed to produce 480 lakh litres of potable alcohol.

| With this the new unit can produce 480 lakh litres of potable alcohol out of the licenced capacity of 600 lakh litres and the rest will be industrial alcohol. This area falls in the Gunaur assembly constituency, represented by the chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

| The DSM group is investing Rs 750 crore for setting up new sugar mills, co-generation power plants and distilleries. Dayal Breweries will set up a new distillery at Tapri in Saharanpur district.

| The new unit will have the licensed capacity to produce 180 lakh litres of alcohol annually out of which the new unit has been permitted to produce 144 lakh litres of potable alcohol and rest industrial alcohol. Dayal breweries will invest Rs 122 crore in the new distillery in Saharanpur.

| A license was given to the Bajaj Hindusthan group for producing 200 lakh litres of potable alcohol at its Gola unit in Lakhimpur district in October 2005.

| On the request of the company the government allowed the Bajaj group to transfer the license to produce same quantity of potable alcohol at its new sugar mill at Kinauni in Meerut district.

| With the addition of fresh capacity, UP will emerge as number one in the country in production of potable and industrial alcohol.

| The total installed capacity for potable alcohol in UP will increase to 5,798 lakh litres annually and 6,995 litres of industrial alcohol per annum. |
