The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to set up a 1,980 Megawatt (Mw) power plant in Sonebhadra district of the state.
The proposed thermal power plant would have three units of 660 Mw each at Dopaha. It would be set up in private sector following a tariff-based bidding process for procurement of power by the distributing companies.
UP Power Corporation Limited has invited bids from consultants for preparing the feasibility study, detailed project report and carrying out a study for Comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (CEIA).
The CEIA is mandatory for securing environmental clearance from the UP Pollution Control Board and the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest.
The last date for receiving the bids is July 2, 2009, the date when request of proposal documents would be opened.
UP currently is facing massive power cuts due to huge demand-supply gap.
While the restricted daily demand hovers around 9,000 Mw, the total availability, including import from the central sector and other sources, is around 6,500 Mw. Even major cities like Kanpur, Bareilly and Allahabad are being subjected to power cuts daily.
The state government plans to ramp up its power generation capacity by 10,000 Mw in the current Eleventh Five Year Plan with the help of the private sector. Two other power plants will also be set up by Jaypee Group in Allahabad district totalling 3,300 Mw.
