UP to set up oldage homes under PPP model
Virendra Singh Rawat / New Delhi/ Lucknow Apr 02, 2009, 00:32 IST

The Uttar Pradesh government will set up oldage homes across the state under public-private partnership.

These homes will be set up in all the 17 divisions of the state for the financially weaker sections of society, said state social welfare commissioner Rakesh Kumar Mittal.

According to Mittal, international funding agencies, including the World Bank, are seeking a viable social security network (SSN) before releasing funds for developmental projects.

He, however, maintained that funds were not a constraint for such projects. “We have a budget of almost Rs 9,000 crore for executing these projects,” he said. The Centre has provided Rs 11,000 crore under the Eleventh Five Year Plan for the social sector.

Meanwhile, the state government has computerised the children scholarship database and would soon computerise database of oldage homes and beneficiaries.
