The leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani has ridiculed Pranab Mukherjee’s concern for the "aam admi" in his speech while presenting the Interim Budget for the year 2009-10 today.
"At the end of the five-year term the UPA has let down the aam admi," he said.
Advani, who termed Mukherjee’s speech as a ''farewell speech’’ said in a statement, ''people in the top financial brackets who had become millionaires or billionaires may be happy, but the aam admi feels badly let down.’’
Advani, who is the shadow Prime Minister proposed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), took the occasion to blame the UPA for the soaring prices and job losses. He, however, admitted that the job losses in India were primarily because of the global melt-down.
"Since last year, the rapidly mounting unemployment which was initially because of our own mismanagement of the economy and later because of the global meltdown - has affected the people badly," the said.
Referring to Mukherjee’s tribute to the farmers for ensuring food security and hailing them as "India’s real heroes’’, Advani said, "it is a cruel joke on them.’’ He said the farmers had indeed ensured country’s food security while the UPA government had failed to prevent the suicides by desperate farmers.
