Worries of US government's rising debt dragged the US markets down on Wednesday as investors felt increasing debt could lead to a delayed recovery of the economy.
The Dow slipped 173 points (2%) to 8,300. The Nasdaq dropped 19 points (1%) to 1,731.
MTNL zoomed 11% to $4.35. Sterlite surged 7% to $12.06. Tata Motors added 2% to $9.64.
Infosys and Wipro advanced 1% each to 32.61 and $11.25, respectively. Satyam and ICICI Bank was unchanged.
Tata Communications shed 5% to $ 21.07. Dr Reddy's, Patni Computers and HDFC Bank slipped a per cent each to $13.58, $10.09 and $94.72.
Genpact was flat at 10.45.
