United States today claimed that it is getting closer to an agreement with regard to Israel-Palestine conflict, but will not divulge the details.
"There have been some reports that we are close to a breakthrough. I would characterise it as that we are getting closer to an agreement," State Department spokesperson Ian C Kelly told reporters at his daily press briefing.
"But any reports that we have come to an agreement, or that we expect one on Wednesday necessarily, I would have to call premature," Kelly said referring to media reports in this regard. "I will say that we hope that this particular phase of the discussions will end very soon."
Responding to a question, Kelly said: "We are getting closer to laying this foundation where everybody's comfortable to coming and sitting down and talking."
Kelly said the Special US Envoy for Middle East George Mitchell, would meet the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in London tomorrow.
Noting that the Obama Administration has placed a very high priority on getting a comprehensive peace solution to the problem, Kelly said the United States is trying to lay the foundation that will lead to the resumption of meaningful negotiations.
Kelly reiterated that Israel has to stop construction of all settlements including exiting ones and natural growths.
