| US jobless claims come down to 6,21,000 |

Providing succour to the nation's labour market, the number of claims for unemployment benefits in the US fell to 6,21,000 for the week ended May 30.
Amid projections of increased job losses in the coming months, the latest figures from the US Labor Department showed that initial jobless claims came down by 4,000 from the previous week's 6,25,000.
Adding to the optimism, the count of people already receiving unemployment benefits fell to 6,735,000 for the week ended May 23.
"In the week ending May 30, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 621,000, a decrease of 4,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 6,25,000," the Labour Department said in a statement today.
However, the four-week moving average touched 631,250, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week's revised average of 6,27,250.
For the week ended May 23, the advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment declined by 15,000 to 67,35,000. In the preceding week, the revised level was at 67,50,000.
"The 4-week moving average was 66,87,500, an increase of 88,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 65,98,750," the statement said.
