BJP leader Varun Gandhi today moved the Supreme Court seeking quashing of his detention under National Security Act citing the state advisory board's recommendation for revocation of the stringent law against him.    

He also claimed damages of Rs 10 lakh from Uttar Pradesh government for slapping NSA against him for his alleged hate speeches in Pilibhit.  Varun's petition was mentioned by senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi before a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan which agreed to hear it on an urgent basis tomorrow.  

The BJP leader, whose parole comes to an end tomorrow, will be heard along with Uttar Pradesh government which has challenged the advisory board's recommendation for revocation of NSA against him. 

Varun questioned the fresh move of Uttar Pradesh government to appraoch the apex court for setting aside the decision of the advisory board just a day before the polling for Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency alleging the Mayawati regime has "refused to halt its political onslaught against him".  

In the fresh petition filed through advocate Sandeep Kapur, Varun sought a direction for the "state government or its concerned officials to pay exemplary damages to him to the tune of Rs 10 lakh to be deposited in favour of Supreme Court Legal Aid Services".
