Videocon eyeing 18% LCD TV market share
BS Reporter / Lucknow Jul 08, 2009, 16:29 IST

Homegrown consumer durables major Videocon Industries is eyeing an 18 per cent LCD TV market share in the current fiscal. This comes in the backdrop of the proposed 5 per cent cut in customs duty on LCD panels in the Union Budget 2009-10.

“Our current market share in the LCD segment is around 12 per cent and we target 18 per cent pie in the current fiscal riding on back of 18 fresh models,” Videocon Chief Marketing Officer Jaideep Rathore told Business Standard.

The LCD TV segment in India is dominated by foreign brands such as Samsung and LG. He added the company would pass on the benefit of customs duty cut to the consumers if the budget proposals were implemented.

The company, which has 18 manufacturing units in the country, is also working towards trading in carbon credits.

“The carbon credit trading mechanism will be implemented in the current financial year in phased manner according to our different business verticals,” Rathore informed.

Videocon has four branches and about 800 dealers in Uttar Pradesh. “We are the market leader with 22 per cent share in the UP television market,” Rathore shared.

Meanwhile, the company will soon foray in the lucrative mobile handset market.

He was here to unveil the company’s new brand identity and new range of products. “Our new green logo provides an identity that is fresh and dynamic and reaffirms our commitment towards green technology,” he said.
