Virtusa Corporation demonstrates social leadership by advancing responsible corporate citizenship using the company’s core competencies to enhance the communities in which it operates. The launch highlighted its progress with these initiatives, and was also an opportunity for Virtusans to join the corporate social responsibility (CSR) team and get involved.

“Our CSR efforts focus on driving IT education at universities and schools, and on working with the government to shape a knowledge economy and environmental initiative. We apply information technology, our core competence, to create opportunities to achieve extraordinary social results, and take great pride in creating opportunities for our clients, team members, shareholders and communities to set free their full potential,” said Kris Canekeratne, Chairman and CEO Virtusa Corporation.”

The UN Global Compact furthers the implementation of new principles in the fields of human rights, working conditions and practices, and environmental protection worldwide. As a new member, Virtusa plans to make information technology (IT) more available and accessible, promote digital literacy and create economic opportunities through IT. Its Campus Reach and Digital Reach initiatives, in collaboration with the government and universities, and its environmental initiatives are the pillars of its sustainability program.

Recently Virtusa Corporation was selected as one of eleven finalists for the United States Secretary of State’s prestigious 2008 Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE). It recognizes Virtusa and its employees for their significant contributions to the "Sahana" disaster recovery system, its Campus Reach and Digital Reach CSR initiatives, and its IT advocacy programs to improve IT skills and curriculum in Sri Lanka.

There are nearly 5,000 members in the UN Global Compact. Organizations like Virtusa stand to gain much from this network, as it is the largest CSR network of business organizations in the world. Member organizations are recognized worldwide as having the highest standards of socially-responsible conduct and sustainability.
