Webel to invest Rs 4-5K crore in Kalyani IT SEZ in 5 years

The West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Ltd (WEBEL), the nodal information technology (IT) agency of the West Bengal government, will invest Rs 4,000-5,000 crore over the next five years to set up an IT SEZ at Kalyani over 100 acres.

N R Banerjee, chairman Webel, said, the IT SEZ in Kalyani would be developed in public-private-partnership (PPP) model on 100 acres for an investment of Rs 4,000-5,000 crore over a period of five years.”

 
“We have floated an expression of interest and received bids from three to four companies till now. We are going to open the financial bid by June 2009,” Banerjee said. Around 50 per cent area in the IT SEZ will be developed by private developers. The built-up space would 20-25 lakh square feet, Banerjee said. The land acquisition was being done by the land and land reforms department of the state.

Webel has appointed SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd as a consultant for the project.

Apart from the Kalyani project, Webel is also developing IT parks in Siliguri and Durgapur.

The company is expecting to close 2008-09 with a turnover of Rs 150 crore, same as last year. Webel’s new managing director Tamal Dasgupta, said, Webel had registered profit of Rs 24.91 in 2007-08.
