Wet spell could correct imbalance in rainfall in M'rashtra
Press Trust of India / Pune Jul 11, 2009, 11:29 IST

The current wet spell over interior Maharashtra is likely to continue if favourable conditions prevail, the MET office said today.

Contrary to the heavy rains being experienced along the West coast and Konkan, the monsoon has been erratic in several parts of interior Maharashtra and the late revival could bridge the rainfall deficit, officials of the Directorate of Agriculture here said.

"After Vidarbha and North Maharashtra which have received substantial rains in the last few days despite June recording a largely dry run, Madhya and Western Maharashtra is expected to benefit from the current wet spell emanating mainly due to a trough formed over the Arabian sea," Medha Kohole, director, IMD, explained.

"This can help correct imbalance in the rainfall in the coastal and interior Maharashtra", she added.

Pune and adjoining districts of Western Maharashtra have been receiving intermittent rains and after a prolonged dry spell, raising the levels of reservoirs supplying water to the city subjected to a severe cut of 40 per cent.
