Komal Amit Gera / New Delhi/ Chandigarh May 07, 2009, 00:26 IST

Haryana has procured 6.7 million tonne of wheat till May 5 in the ongoing wheat procurement season.

Of this, the Food Corporation of India procured 916,000 tonne while other state agencies including the department of food and supply, Hafed, Confed, Haryana Agriculture Marketing Board and Haryana Warehousing Corporation bought 5.8 mt.

Sources in the FCI said last year the procurement stood at 5.2 mt. With still a few more days to go, this season's procurement may touch 7 mt.

Private traders lifted only about 2,600 tonne. The private buyers and those running flour mills also buy during the open sale scheme announced during the offseason.
