Winter session of West Bengal assembly began here today and is likely to be stormy with the ruling Left Front moving a non-official resolution in the House demanding discussion on "Statewide anarchy by Maoists and Trinamool Congress". Announcing to move along with several other resolutions, government chief whip Syed Mohammad Masih told reporters that they had raised the issue in Business Advisory Committee meeting. He alleged that Naxalites and TMC were "unleashing a reign of terror" in the state and the latter was involved in spreading anarchy with their direct or indirect involvement with the former.
LF would also move non-official motions on price rise, dredging in the Hooghly river and Bengali language. The House is likely to feel the heat with the Opposition Trinamool Congress gaining strength in the recent assembly bypolls and planning to grill the Left Front government on escalating political violence.
Meanwhile, the House was adjourned today immediately after obituary references were made as mark of respect to 16 former members and important personalities who died recently.After the House was adjourned, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee convened a meeting of LF MLAs and asked them to be punctual, thorough and disciplined in the interest of the people.
Masih hoped the motion on Bengali language demanding its international recognition would be an all-party resolution. The neighbouring Bangladesh had already moved United Nations demanding its international recognition, Masih said. About 12 bills would be tabled this session and some would be sent to select or standing committees, Masih said, adding that the ruling LF want discussions on the issues of public interest.
