Wipro in tie up with Lavasa for IT infrastructure
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Bangalore Aug 29, 2009, 00:39 IST

Wipro, India’s third largest IT services firm, has announced a strategic partnership with Lavasa Corporation to help the latter manage Information & Communication Technology (ICT) services across Lavasa city. The partnership includes the formation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV), which will support Lavasa city in the areas of city management system and services, e-Governance, ICT infrastructure and value added services.

Lavasa is free India’s first and largest hill city being developed by Lavasa Corporation, a subsidiary of the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) where people can live, work, learn and play in harmony with nature. The SPV expects to derive a revenue of $100 million over the next 10 years from Lavasa city’s first town Dasve.

Rajgopal Nogja, president, Lavasa Corporation, said, “For a completely new hill city like Lavasa, technology leadership is a key driver of city development and management. Wipro has proven expertise in ICT solutions and this partnership will ensure a quantum leap in not only being technologically proactive but also realising our vision in becoming a completely e-governed city.”

Through this partnership, Wipro will design the detailed infrastructure for telecom services for governance, as also for the resident and visitors of Lavasa city. The company will provide telecom-based services that will facilitate smart homes, and buildings including integrated building management systems, physical security requirements and other on-demand services.

“We plan to leverage our global best practices to deliver innovative services to residents and businesses operating from Lavasa. Lavasa city, being developed in an area spanning 100 sq kms, will have a self-sustaining economy of its own which will cut across the entire spectrum of socio-economic class, according to the promoters.

It will encompass hospitality, tourism and leisure on one hand and education, research and innovating businesses on the other.
