BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hyderabad Dec 03, 2009, 00:48 IST

IT giant Wipro Limited, as part of its energy efficiency initiatives, is planning to reduce the carbon footprints from the present 3.96 tonne per employee to 2.5 tonne in the next five to seven years, said Laxman K Badiga, chief information officer of the company.

“Through various green initiatives, we have created an environmentally-sustainable workplace, by bringing down power consumption by 12 per cent and water utilisation by 15 per cent last year,” he told mediapersons here on Wednesday, adding that the company proposes to set up solar panels and windmills at the Hyderabad centre to power the parking area and boulevard in the next three months.
