Jayajit Dash / Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar Jun 19, 2009, 00:10 IST

WLC College India, one of the leading professional educational institutions in the country plans to introduce new courses at its Bhubaneswar campus from 2010.

The new courses include post-graduate and under-graduate programmes in Fashion Technology, Film and Television Production as well as Advertising and Graphic Design and a post-graduate course in Fashion Management and Merchandising. Each of these courses would have an intake of 15-20 students.

At present, the Bhubaneswar centre of WLC College India offers post-graduate and under-graduate programmes in business management and has a total intake of 70 students.

“We are planning to introduce our creative programmes in fashion, media and advertising in our Bhubaneswar centre from the 2010 academic session. At present, these programmes are only offered at WLC India’s centres in the metropolitan cities”, Malobika Sengupta, chief executive officer, WLC College India told Business Standard.

WLC College India which has centres in more than 40 locations of the country plans to expand its presence to 25 more centres across the country in the next couple of years.

With this expansion, the student strength of WLC College India would go up from 3,500 at present to over 7,000 in the next two years, said Sengupta.

WLC College India is also mulling to introduce an executive programme in business management soon for the working executives.

Sengupta said, “Despite the economic downturn, more than 80 per cent of our students have been placed this year while some students have opted for higher studies. The average salaries this year has been in the range of Rs 3-5 lakh per annum which is almost the same as that of last year’s placements.”

She pointed out that the traineeship provided by WLC College India to students of all its courses has significantly helped to secure placements.

As per the traineeship programme, students in the final year of any course work as trainees in different organisations while pursuing their academic classes from 8 am to 11 am every day.

Moreover, students of all the programmes are also provided 45 hours of training on soft skills, time management and confidence management, she said.
