Woman leaders pin hopes on passing of quota Bill in LS

As the Rajya Sabha passed the historic Women's Reservation Bill today, woman leaders "crossed their fingers" in the hope that the legislation will get through the Lower House too.
Expelled Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada said, "I am crossing my fingers, because we have crossed one step, we are looking forward to pass the Bill in Lok Sabha also."
Former Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhary said, "The Bill is something which is benefitting more than 50 per cent of the population. This is beyond personal considerations."
On Trinamool Congress not voting for the legislation, she said she would like to believe that Mamata Banerjee was actually "posturing on some other issue".
CPI (M) MP Brinda Karat rejected some of the objections raised by parties like RJD and SP. She said the measure would help empower women at all levels.
