ZTE bags Unitech Wireless' GSM network contract
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Oct 14, 2009, 18:39 IST

Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE Corporation today said it has signed an agreement with Unitech Wireless to supply GSM network to the company.

Under the agreement, ZTE will provide GSM systems and core network equipment for five years across the circles of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana, ZTE said in a statement. However, the financial details of the deal was not available.

On Monday, Unitech had signed a similar agreement with telecom equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks.

NSN would be responsible for operation and maintenance of Unitech  Wireless'  network in six telecom circles, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, it had said.

Unitech Wireless, a joint venture between Norway's Telenor Group and real estate player Unitech Group, has received licences to provide mobile phone services across all 22 telecom circles in the country.

The company is planning to roll-out services in select circles by the end of 2009 under the brand name 'Uninor'.

"This agreement not only marks our GSM network contract from a global telecom operator, but also provides us with an opportunity to establish and manage GSM networks in metros and large cities," ZTE Telecom India Chairman and Managing Director DK Ghosh said.
