| Yaga Venugopal Reddy: What next for India's fin sector? | 27-OCT-09 |
| Some say India has been saved from the financial crisis only because the policy was conservative and did not act to improve the efficiency of the system. Hence, their prescription is to act now on efficiency. This view is not right because India was active in policy interventions in both monetary and financial sectors. RBI adopted an active countercyclical policy, while many others failed to intervene. |

| Letters: Thank you, Mr Mallya | 12-MAR-09 |
| United Breweries’ chief Vijay Mallya should be appreciated for his swift and fast action to ensure he won the auction in the US! It is a matter of pride for all Indians that one of us has managed to get back the items belonging to Mahatma Gandhi. Puritans may question the background of Mallya as a liquor baron etc but it is only his timely action that counts today. It is very unfortunate that we give recognition to most things only when foreigners recognise them. The film Gandhi was, after all, made by a Britisher! We are capable of only talking big and doing nothing. At a time when there was a feeling that we may lose Gandhi’s memorabilia, Mallya’s surprise bid ensured the precious items will now find their way back into the country. |
