| Jyoti Parikh & Kirit Parikh: Deal-making at Copenhagen | 22-NOV-09 |
| Minister for Environment Jairam Ramesh wants India to be a deal maker at the Copenhagen Climate Conference. We propose here a deal that India can offer that addresses the objectives of the ‘deal makers’ and the concerns of those who oppose any deal inconsistent with India’s past stand. Our proposal is consistent with it and the principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) accepted at Rio. |

| 'Don't expect much from Copenhagen summit' | 20-NOV-09 |
| Asking Indians not to expect much from the climate change conference in Copenhagen, environment minister Jairam Ramesh today said the government would follow a “twin track” approach of not binding itself to any global agreement but, at the same time, putting in place “ruthless” measures to cut emissions on the domestic front. |

| Climate of confusion | 20-NOV-09 |
| When authoritative spokespersons of the government speak in different voices on an issue, what ensues is utter confusion. This is, indeed, the state of affairs regarding the government’s (read India’s) stand on climate change less than a month prior to the crucial global summit on this subject in Copenhagen. The divergent utterances by environment and forests minister Jairam Ramesh and Prime Minister’s special envoy on climate change Shyam Saran have created a good deal of ambiguity within and outside the country over the government’s strategy for these talks. Worse still, this confusion has been confounded by the release of a document by Ramesh on Himalayan glaciers which, inter alia, disputes the claim that these glaciers are shrinking fast and that this phenomenon was linked to global warming. |

| Letters: Just Jairam | 16-NOV-09 |
| No one doubts the Himalayan glaciers are melting at an abnormally fast pace. Till now it was assumed this was the impact of global warming. Environment minister Jairam Ramesh, however, has a completely different spin on it. While releasing a report on the issue, he is quoted as having said the government would focus on “studying the glaciers from the scientific point of view rather than looking at the issue from political angle”. |
