Paswan ties up with Lalu04-NOV-09
Is it just a means to retain his sprawling bungalow on Janpath, or is it part of a larger game plan? Whatever, for now Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan, who keeps getting a notice to vacate his bungalow since he is no longer an MP, is going to stand for a Rajya Sabha seat with the support of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad. Prasad hopes to exploit Paswan’s Dalit appeal — interestingly, the Congress party also plans to support Paswan for the same reason.
Aditi Phadnis: Nitish's clouded clout03-OCT-09
Former Revenue and Rural Development Secretary D Bandyopadhyay handed over his seminal work — a report on land reform in Bihar — to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in July. Accepting the copy, the chief minister said in colloquial Hindi: “Mr Bandyopadhyay, if you steal Rs 5,00,000, no one will say a word to you. But if you steal another man’s wife or his land, they will be ready to murder you”.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and said there was a strong bond between the two parties and like-minded secular forces should come together to keep the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at bay.
Mamata 'shunts' Lalu for Bihar railway projects01-SEP-09

Sunil Jain: Throwing money at the problem13-AUG-09
India has a huge infrastructure problem and the solution so far appears to be to throw more money at the problem, without much effort to fix the core issues. A McKinsey analysis suggests India could lose up to around 10 per cent of GDP in the year 2017-18 due to shortage of infrastructure. While this is not a startling result, what is worrying is that the quality of expenditure has gone down with more money being spent. So, in the power sector, actual expenditures have fallen from 75 per cent of those planned in the 9th Plan period to a mere 58 per cent in the 10th one — roughly speaking, the 9th Plan was the NDA period and the 10th Plan the UPA’s first term.
When RJD won better LS seats09-AUG-09
Lalu Prasad is not the lone Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) leader who enjoys a seat in the prestigious first row in the Lok Sabha. In fact, his party has another coveted first row seat by luck. What happened is this: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda was allotted a first row seat out of the Treasury bench quota, next to Prasad, as per convention. But during the initial days, Deve Gowda didn't turn up and Prasad's party MP, Uma Shanker Singh, occupied Gowda's place to give company to his leader. After former rural development minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, RJD's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, advised Uma Shanker Singh to continue to sit in Gowda's seat, RJD ended up occupying more front row seats than the real allies of the Congress.
Prasad follows cong policy02-AUG-09
Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad was initially confused whether to support the prime minister on the Indo-Pak joint statement or not. A day before the Lok Sabha debate on foreign policy issues was slated to take place, Prasad consulted his colleague, Raghuvash Prasad Singh. Singh, a former rural development minister, gave a simple advice, “When the Congress is not supporting its prime minister, why should we support him?” Prasad paid heed to this advice and criticised the foreign policy, even though his party is an ally of the UPA.
Kashmir's security blues in New Delhi26-JUL-09
The fierce fight put up by Mayawati and Lalu Prasad over the proposal to downgrade their security was barely over when a group of angry “leaders” from Kashmir descended in New Delhi with similar woes. These were candidates who had contested and lost the Lok Sabha elections. Now, they are upset as the state government has withdrawn their security. While the agitated leaders fear that they are sitting ducks for militants, the Omar Abdullah government feels most of them had jumped into the fray with the sole aim of getting security to enhance their social status.

Lalu wonders at didi-speak05-JUL-09
Lalu Prasad, who hails from the Hindi heartland, spent a considerable time on Friday to understand the meaning of “Duranto”, used by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in her Budget speech. Before the press conference at his Tughlak Road residence, Prasad sat with his followers, including two former ministers, and asked, “Aare bhai, yeh duranto kya hai? (what is this duranto). Does it mean very fast or does it signify long distance?” Later, at the press conference, Prasad was still confused. “Does it mean that once a train starts, it will go on and on in one direction and then keep running in another direction? How is it possible?” Prasad wondered.
