| Hatch match | 21-NOV-09 |
|
| I’m considering buying a hatchback for local commutes for my children. My requirement is for a car that is easy to drive, fuel efficient, low on maintenance and has a refined engine. I am considering the Maruti Suzuki Alto, the Hyundai i10, Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki A-star and Chevrolet Spark. The Alto has good manoeuvrability but seems to be outdated. My budget is Rs 3-3.50 lakh. |

| I want a hatchback that is better than the Wagon R that I have been driving. It’s done close to 65,000 km over the last five years and am very happy with the experience. I am interested only in Maruti Suzuki products. |

| I have been using cars since 1960 onwards. In my working daysin India and abroad, I have driven Hondas, Mercedes-Benzes and various other cars. Today, after retirement and at 79 years of age, for the last six years I have been using a Hyundai Santro Xing. On an average, per day, I drive 12 to 15 km and once a month, whenI go out of Pune, I do about 100-150 km. My only problem is accommodating my luggage in the boot, and therefore I’m thinking of buying a new car with large luggage space. I had zeroed it down to the Swift Dzire, but the dealer said ‘no bookings’. I am in no hurry and can wait. Do you have any suggestions, and can you recommend any other car? My budget is Rs 6-7 lakh. |

| I am looking for a second-hand car with a boot. It has to be relatively economical to own and should fit in my budget of Rs 1.5 to 2.5 lakh. I have two offers: a 2004 Ford Ikon with 41,000 km on board at Rs 1.55 lakh and a 2005 Ford Fiesta ZXI which has done 35,000 km at Rs 2.80 lakh. Both seem to be in good condition. Though I have a Hyundai Santro which is going great, I am looking for a sedan for the occasional drive, so I don’t expect to use it much. |

| Crossed up | 26-SEP-09 |
|
| I have been considering buying a crossover SUV for some time but cannot make up my mind. I live in Mumbai and my weekday commute is about 10 km. On an average, my monthly driving would be 400-500 km. The car will be self-driven. I currently drive a seven-year old Skoda Octavia which needs to go as it has now started giving me a lot of problems. |

| I’m on the lookout for a hatchback for my wife. She will drive it to work and back, so it’s going to be city driving for the most part. The car will do 1000 km every month and my budget is up to Rs 6 lakh. One option I have in mind is the Hyundai i20. Currently, she drives a Tata Indigo diesel, so a diesel option is not out of the question. Please suggest which car would suit my requirements the best. |

| Which SUV would be the best in the used car market for a price range of Rs 10-15 lakh? The vehicle should be not more than two years old and should not have done more than 20,000 km. My second query is which SUV is good but as a new vehicle in the price range of Rs 15-20 lakh. Diesel is preferable for economy though I don’t drive much (about 100 kilometres in a week). Kindly suggest. |

| Skoda hasn’t indicated its intention of bringing in a Laura 1.8 TSI with a DSG gearbox just yet, since the overlap with the Superb in terms of product positioning would be too strong for the company to ignore. It would mean a loss in sales of the Superb, which it wouldn’t want at this point in time. |
