| Keeping in view the growing demand for skilled manpower in the apparel industry, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) under the Union ministry of textiles has decided to set up three more apparel training and design centres in Orissa. These training cum design centres would be set up at Sambalpur, Baripada and Cuttack during the current year under the Skill Development Project (SDP), said Lopamudra Das, head of AEPC's Bhubaneswar centre. |

The idea is to encourage the students from weaker sections of the society to join industry through orientation and development of soft-skills. Further, the CII is also toying with an idea to do assessment of top technical institutes so that it can suggest ways for the institute to improve its weaker areas. |

A recent research carried out by Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (Icrier) shows a 10 per cent increase in mobile penetration raises GDP growth by 1.2 percentage points. The spectrum and licensing policy will determine whether the industry can deliver a long-term growth or will die a “death by a thousand cuts” — uncertainty and fragmentation may cause higher costs which, in the end, must be passed on to consumers.
