    Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated US-based hospitality chain JW Marriott’s debut hotel in the city on Tuesday, reiterating her contention that the state had a conducive environment for businesses to flourish.

    Speaking at the venue, she said, “All hoteliers are coming to Bengal. If there is no business, why will they come here?” Calling the hotel “a Diwali gift to the city”, the chief minister said the luxury property was completed on time.

    “Implementation of this project was done on time without any difficulty. That is a unique performance,” she said.

    The hotel, located off EM Bypass, is one of the biggest in eastern India.

    The project cost around Rs 1,200 crore, comprises 281 rooms, six F&B outlets and banquet space of 38,000 sq. ft including a 14,000 pillarless ballroom.

    “There is an infinity pool on the second floor and a 180-seater nightclub,” said Ranju Alex, the general manager of the hotel.

    Mamata also talked about the company’s plan to invest in another hotel at Siliguri. The superstructure, spread over 1.3 acres of land on Hillcart Road, would comprise 138 rooms. It will be thrown open to the public by the end of 2017.
