France labour unrest: Clashes erupt over labour reform

France, Sep 13 (ANI): Clashes yet again broke out in France over the issue of labour reform that has dogged the French economy for decades. Opposition leader of "France Unbowed" Party Jean-Luc Melenchon said, "Macron knows it's a battle, he wanted one. And now, it's our turn to pick up the gauntlet ..." The supporters of labour reform think the reform is imperative in order to stir investment and free up a rigid jobs market. The supporters do not seem to be afraid of the unrest that had 400,000 people on the streets last year. Opponents have planned to gather in thousands to support the strike and demos. However, there are some who oppose the reform including France's second-biggest union and two others. Though six out of ten people are against Macron's labour decrees, a poll revealed many see it as a time to change. Meanwhile, President Emmanuel Macron is in Guadeloupe to visit French territories hit by Hurricane Irma.
