Leading steel maker Jindal Steel & Power Ltd today commissioned the steel melting shop and its allied unit of the 6 MTPA integrated steel plant at Angul in Odisha.
"Commissioning of the steel melting shop (SMS) is an important milestone in our project. With this landmark achievement, we are achieving 2.5 million tonne per annum (MTPA) steel production capacity in the first phase," said Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, Executive Director (Projects) of JSPL's Angul Unit.
"The Electric Arc Furnace of the SMS is of 250 tonnes capacity and is the largest in size in India and second in Asia," Saraogi said in a statement.
Last year, the company had commissioned India's widest 5.0 meter wide plate mill under the steel Project. The steel melting shop is of 2.5 million tonnes per annum capacity and has highest flexibility for raw materials, as it can use both Solid Hot feed, Solid Cold Feed and Hot Metal feed, a senior JSPL official said.
