Investment banking and management consulting firms dominated the scene during the summer internship at the IIM-B campus. Of the 249 students who got the internship offers, 68 per cent accounted for investment banking followed by 17 per cent for management consulting firms.

The summer internship is considered an indicator of the hiring trends at most of the IIMs during the final placement. Most students manage to get pre-placement offers (PPOs) in companies where they intern.

Of the 253 students in IIM-B who did their summer internships during 2006-07, about 90 students have been given PPOs by the respective companies.

"Usually over 40 per cent of the students in any batch do not have any work experience. The summer internship programme provides them an opportunity to work in a business environment and to hone their skills for the final placement.
