Mechanism to bring EC, SECs discussed

The Administrative Reforms Commission had recommended that the EC and the SECs be brought on a common platform, which was accepted by the committee, Haryana State Election Commissioner Dharam Vir said.

State Election Commissioners of Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Karnataka attended the meeting hosted by Haryana SEC.

For panchayats and municipal elections, the standing committee decided to adopt assembly electoral rolls prepared and updated by EC every year.

The decision would save huge expenditure and efforts that go into making electoral rolls for panchayat and municipal elections, an official release said here.
